RACGP Accreditation, Australia

Find Accreditation Gaps Before Your Survey Does

An independent RACGP accreditation gap analysis and pre-survey readiness review for Australian general practices

This is not a template checklist you are left to interpret. It is a structured, whole-of-practice pre-survey assessment: 21 areas and more than 120 individual checks, from the front door to the vaccine fridge to your staff files.

Delivered on-site across Perth metro, or remotely anywhere in Australia through a guided photo and evidence review. Either way, you receive a written report, risk-rated findings and a prioritised action plan, so you know exactly what to fix and in what order.

What This Is

An independent whole-of-practice assessment, physical environment, documentation and evidence, against RACGP 5th Edition mandatory indicators. Delivered as a formal written report with risk-rated findings and a sequenced action plan.

What You Receive

Gap analysis against all mandatory indicators
Written readiness report (8 to 15 pages)
Risk-rated findings, critical, moderate, minor
Prioritised action plan ordered by survey impact
Debrief call with MedAssure
On-site across Perth, remote Australia-wide

The Problem

Most practices don't know what assessors will actually pick up

The RACGP self-assessment tool tells you what to look for. It does not tell you whether what you have is good enough, or which gaps will attract conditions on survey day.

Practices that have worked hard on preparation are consistently caught out by documentation that doesn't align with specific mandatory indicators, or by compliance that exists operationally but isn't recorded in a way assessors can assess.

The gaps that cause conditions are rarely the obvious ones. They are the ones nobody thought to check against the specific wording of the indicator.

What assessors find in prepared practices

Policies that exist but don't match the specific wording of mandatory indicators
Registers maintained inconsistently, gaps assessors identify immediately
Quality improvement documentation showing planning but no evidence of action
Staff who cannot speak to processes during assessor interviews
Evidence folders disorganised or missing key supporting items
No formal internal audit completed before survey day

Who This Is For

When Practices Book a Readiness Review

The Review is useful at any stage. It is not a replacement for full preparation, it is the diagnostic that tells you where to focus.

Survey approaching in 1-8 weeks

You've prepared, but you want independent confirmation of what will hold up before the assessors arrive. The Express Review gives you what you need fast.

Survey in 6-12 months

You want to know exactly what a full engagement would need to address, and whether you even need one. The Standard Review gives you a complete picture.

First-time accreditation

You're building from scratch and need an expert to confirm your baseline before committing resource to documentation that might miss the mark.

After a non-compliance finding

You received conditions at your last survey. You need confirmation that corrective actions taken are now sufficient before the follow-up assessment.

The Walkthrough

21 Areas, From the Front Door to the Staff Files

The Review follows the same path an assessor walks on survey day, in physical walkthrough order. Every check item records what good looks like, the questions assessors commonly ask, and a practical risk rating. Here is a small sample of what gets checked.

21

risk levels: critical, moderate, minor

100%

mapped to the 5th Edition Standards

Reception and Privacy

One of the checks

No patient-identifying information visible or audible from the waiting room: screens angled, no scripts or pathology forms in view.

Assessors may ask

“How do you protect privacy at reception?”

Vaccine Fridge and Cold Chain

One of the checks

Purpose-built vaccine fridge in use, with monitoring and processes that comply with the current Strive for 5 guidelines.

Assessors may ask

“Tell me about your vaccine fridge.”

Stock and Expiry

One of the checks

Room-by-room expiry check: no expired stock, open dressings, loose drugs or samples anywhere in the practice.

Assessors may ask

“How are rooms checked for expired stock?”

Staff Interview Readiness

One of the checks

Mock assessor questions run with reception, nursing and clinical staff, because assessors interview staff at every level.

Assessors may ask

“A patient phones with chest pain. What do you do?”

These are 4 of the 21 areas. The complete walkthrough, every check item, what good looks like for each, and the full set of assessor questions, is what you engage the Review for. It is the product, not the brochure.

Delivery

Room-by-room photo checklist, so you know exactly what to capture
Registers, folders and records shared via Google Drive
Screenshots and screen-share for digital evidence and software checks

Why Not Just Use the RACGP Self-Assessment?

What Reviews Uncover

The Kinds of Issues a Review Is Designed to Catch

Illustrative examples of common accreditation preparation issues. These are the patterns a Readiness Review is built to identify.

Documentation Gaps

Gaps hiding in well-prepared documentation

A practice can have policies, registers and evidence folders in place and still have mandatory indicator areas without clear supporting evidence. These are the gaps that attract conditions, and the ones a structured review against the specific indicator wording is designed to surface early.

Quality Improvement

QI documentation present but not assessable

Practices often complete genuine improvement work, such as PDSA cycles, without documenting the Study and Act stages in a form assessors can assess. The Review identifies where existing work needs re-presenting rather than redoing, which is usually a fast fix.

First-Time Accreditation

Baseline confirmed before committing resource

For a new practice, the review establishes which documentation areas need building from scratch and which can be adapted, producing a clear build plan before resource is committed to documentation that would miss mandatory indicator requirements.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

There is no difference in scope. Both reviews are identical: a full documentation and evidence review against the mandatory indicators, risk-rated findings, a written report and a debrief call. The only difference is speed and price. The Standard Review is $850, delivered in 10 business days. The Express Review is $1,250, delivered in 5 business days, for practices close to survey.

Yes, with one important difference. The Readiness Review is a structured gap analysis against the RACGP 5th Edition Standards, covering your documentation, evidence and physical environment. The gap analysis your accrediting agency asks you to complete is a self-assessment: you mark your own work. This one is independent, every finding is risk-rated, and it comes with a prioritised action plan rather than a list of questions.

Across Perth metro, yes. On-site delivery adds $350 to either tier, so an on-site Standard Review is $1,200. Ben conducts the walkthrough in person, room by room, including the vaccine fridge, emergency equipment, reception privacy and staff interview readiness. For practices elsewhere in Australia, the same walkthrough is delivered remotely: you receive a room-by-room photo checklist, share your registers and records via Google Drive, and we assess everything against the same criteria. Both produce the same written report.

AGPAL and QPA are the accrediting agencies. They survey you and report what they find. MedAssure works for you, independently, to identify likely issues before the agencies do. You get the findings on your timeline, with a remediation plan, rather than a survey report you then have to scramble to address.

Often more useful. Practices with 6 to 12 months until survey can act on findings properly rather than rushing remediation in the final weeks. The Standard Review suits this scenario, giving you a complete picture early enough to fix things thoroughly.

Read access to your policy library, evidence folder, training records and clinical governance documentation, plus photos of physical items for remote reviews, guided by our room-by-room checklist. We do not need access to patient data. Everything is handled under a confidentiality agreement.

No. The Review identifies which policies need writing or updating and provides specific guidance on what each needs to address. Policy development is a separate engagement, and the Review fee is credited toward any subsequent work.

Yes. If you proceed with remediation work or a full accreditation preparation engagement through MedAssure after completing a Review, the Review fee is credited toward the total cost.

No. MedAssure is fully independent. This is what allows us to assess your practice objectively and tell you what an assessor is likely to find, before they arrive.

Book the Express Review. Five business day turnaround, designed for exactly this situation. The closer you are to survey, the harder proper remediation becomes, but knowing exactly what to prioritise with the time remaining is still significantly better than not knowing.

The Review assesses your practice against the RACGP 5th Edition Standards, which is what practices are currently surveyed under. When the 6th Edition takes effect, MedAssure can support the transition as a separate engagement.

Most practices use the action plan to self-remediate, or engage MedAssure for targeted assistance on specific gaps. If the Review identifies significant work, policy rewrites, register build-outs, evidence organisation, MedAssure can scope and deliver that as a separate fixed-fee engagement. The Review fee is credited toward the total.

Scope Note

The Readiness Review covers assessment and reporting only. Implementation work, policy drafting, register build-out, documentation updates, is available as a separate fixed-fee engagement. The Review fee is credited toward any subsequent work.

Need more comprehensive support?

If you need full accreditation preparation, policy development or evidence system build-out, MedAssure provides complete fixed-fee engagements scoped to your practice.
